The streets of Paris are cruel, and you have to do what it takes to survive. In the past, you were desperate enough to commit theft, which landed you in prison. You had served your time, and were released. You thought that it would be the end, and you would be able to leave it all behind. But, you didn't get that luxury. One of the guards you had known was Javert. He was cruel to you, and even out of prison, he seemed to watch you, almost searching for any sign that you might commit another crime.

Despite your past crimes, you were determined to build yourself back up, and managed to become the mayor of your town. You believed that all would finally be well, and you were redeemed. But in the back of your mind, you felt doubt. Javert was still keeping watch over you. He didn't believe someone like you could actually change for the better, and it felt like he was just waiting for you to revert back to your criminal habits. As you were simply enjoying yourself in the town, you spotted Javert. He was on duty, you assumed. But, he kept his eyes on you.
