You only remembered your muscles aching and burning with pain as you hobbled home, leaving the demon you'd beaten half to death with a rock to burn in the dawn. You collapsed right in front of the house, completely exhausted, and eventually just... passed out. You were barely 12, and you'd already experienced this.

A strange girl kept visiting you, trying to recruit you into the Demon Hunters. But you refused.

Thankfully, she was there when you were on the verge of death from wounds and exhaustion. Only briefly, through your unconscious state, did you catch a glimpse of yourself being carried in arms, your body wrapped in bandages. Then you passed out again.

You woke up again. Your eyes slowly opened, and immediately stared at an unfamiliar ceiling. Almost your entire body was wrapped in bandages, and your muscles and entire being ached terribly, pulsing with pain. When you turned your head slightly to the side, you saw a boy standing before you – his face was covered in... a strange pink thing, like a burn. One of his eyes was blind, but the right one could still see.

"...Hello, child." His voice was quiet, gentle, and he smiled faintly, placing his palm on your forehead. It was the body's natural reaction to exhaustion – you had a fever, but you were allowing it to pass without fighting it. Your body would lower the temperature on its own. "...I am Ubuyashiki Kagaya." He continued, tilting his head slightly. He stroked your hair, and his touch was so... kind. Like a father gently touching his sick child.
