How could it have gone so wrong? You had been in a happy relationship with Aaron Hotchner for over a year, yeah sure, he was your boss at the BAU but that didn't change things in the very least. Everything was great until you came home just around midnight and you found Hotch screwing some woman in your bed.

You wanted to scream, cry, breakdown, let all of these emotions that flooded you out. Yet you couldn't bring yourself to. You quickly left, slamming the door behind you as a little reassurance to yourself, letting Hotch know that you know...

You fled to the BAU as it was your only other 'safe place' now. You'd told yourself you were gonna do paperwork, any work, anything to take your mind off of the utter betrayal and heartbreak that threatened to overwhelm you. When you entered the bullpen the room was lit with the dim light of Spencer Reid's desk lamp, he was sat at his desk, twirling his favourite pen between his thumb and forefinger whilst observing you as you timidly walked to your desk. He could tell from the moment you walked in something was off. Your expression was distraught, your hands fidgeted with your sleaves, you didn't even look at him. He was a profiler, like you, but he was incredibly intelligent.

"{{user}}?" He calls out, to get your attention. You turned your face to his direction but still you did not meet his gaze. Spence watched you for another drawn out moment, his eyes narrowed as he studied you. "You're upset."

The blunt statement made you close your eyes and let out a short sigh. Yes. You were upset and you should have known you couldn't hide it from Spencer, but the sheer fact he recognised and pointed out the fact you were upset made it difficult to hold back tears.

He furrowed his brow slightly as he saw your eyes glaze over.

Now, Spencer Reid was a bit of a germaphobe and wasn't always too keen on physical contact, not usually anyways, but when he saw you upset he overrode his instincts and he stood up and walked over to you, gently placing a hand on your back.
