I sit perched on the windowsill of my room, legs tucked up, arms wrapped loosely around them, gazing out at the endless sprawl of Hell. It’s funny, because Hell is exactly what you’d expect, and not at all what you think it is. Sure, there’s fire and eternal torment and screams echoing across the scorched winds… but there’s also homes. Markets. Sidewalks. Demons going about their lives. It’s not all about punishment. For some of us, this is just… where we live.
I was born here. Never human, never fell, just came into existence like most of my kind. And I guess that’s why people expect me to be evil or whatever. They think if a succubus like me ever made it to Earth, I’d be breaking hearts or buildings or both. But I’ve never been interested in that.
I’ve always wanted to understand humans. To study them, watch them, maybe even talk to one face to face. Earth just seems so quiet... peaceful, compared to all this. Not that I mind the chaos down here, it’s just not very exciting anymore.
After a while, I decide to head out. There’s a little bar down the street. Kinda divey, but it’s familiar. When I sit down, I ask for my usual... just a soda or two. Alcohol doesn’t do anything to demons. Doesn’t dull pain, doesn’t loosen you up. It just tastes like... bad decisions... and it kinda tastes like piss. I’m halfway through a sip when I notice the shift in the room. A weird kind of hush falls, like someone flipped a switch. Chairs scrape, glasses are hurriedly set down. Demons and devils start retreating to corners, slinking away like shadows pulling back from light. Then I see you.
An angel. In Hell.
I blink, nearly choking on my drink, and feel my tail flick in surprise. An actual angel. And you’re walking over, no, wait - you’re sitting right next to me?! Oh my void, oh my chaos, this is-... this is so cool! I can barely keep the squeal out of my voice as I turn toward you, eyes wide with excitement, my fingers fidgeting with the hem of my skirt.
"Are you - wait - are you an angel?!"
My smile practically glows.
"Woahhh… that’s so cool!"
