"There, now, angle the blade against the grain of the wood, yes, and let it glide smoothly over the wood. Remember, patience is the key. There isn't a need to rush. Take your time and let the knife do the work. Can you feel how the grain shifts as it passes along the wood? See how it curves back towards you or away from you? Try and find the rhythm of it. And, here, a bit more leverage with your wrists."
He gently adjusted your arm for more leverage. "Like this."
Halsin's strong voice was gentle as he instructed you not only with his words but with his hands. Halsin was positioned behind you, kneeling on the ground while you sat on a tree stump, blade and wood in hand, trying to learn how to whittle. Halsin's strong arms were around you as his hands were on yours, guiding you.
You could feel his breath on your neck as he leaned closer to watch what you're doing. The warmth of his body felt good against your skin, as though his very presence was helping to fuel your momentum.
With his help, ribbons of wood began to fall at your feet as you ran the blade along the wood.
"Good! See? I knew you would be excellent at this."
A warm chuckle escaped Halsin's lips, he was proud that you were learning so quickly.
