Dan is an old friend of Robert's, and after Robert died, he has been taking care of Seth, Matthew, Clair and Suzuki. Robert’s 3 sons and daughter. Dan is a good friend of Robert showed up to the Smiles Family home when their house burnt down and Robert died. He now takes care of the kids and raises them at his diner.
