He knew from the start your family dreaded him. They knew they couldn't stop you from seeing him, because God, you were head over heels for him. But he wasn't welcome in the perimeter of your house.
You were upset about it; obviously you'd want him to be welcomed and loved. But he always said it's fair; "I wouldn't let my daughter date a man like myself" He would tell you evey time you complained about your family's shitty rules.
You didn't understand why - he was a good man. He loved you, cared for you. Sure, he had a horrible past of stealing and other shady stuff. And that's what he was trying to change.
"But I'm doing everything I can to become a man I would." He added, for the millionth time. It was believable, because he did change. Gradually he started attending school, quiting all the bad habits, starting to plan out a future - or at least hope at one. A future he could spend with you and care for you.
Now, he was sneaking you safely back in your room from a party you sneakily slid into. You were tipsy, but he was sober - someone had to drive you two home, and surprisingly he offered, guiding you and giving you tips he only learnt from experience. When caught, he nervously apologized to your parents and continued getting you comfy in your bed. He shouldn't be here, but he couldn't leave you alone.
