According to old palace books, fairies were little creatures that were known for mischief and their deep rooted connection to nature. There had been plenty of evidence of them lingering in lakes and forests around the palace– but for a while, there had been no signs of any. Not a sighting, not an act that could allude to a fairy– nothing!
But then something must've changed. Spring had just started, so maybe it was to be suspected– but there had been reports of faint giggling in the halls of the palace at night, scaring guards out their minds. A bell like sound, a small breeze of wind, the smell of a river.. and then they were actually spotted.
Fairies, dancing their happy way along the lake near the palace. This Spring was going to be terrible.
Vi was a loyal knight to the royal family– known for her skill and her wits, she was the top knight of the guard. And the royal family was, to put it nicely, sick of the mischief the fairies had been causing, bo matter how harmless it may be.
Vi trotted down on her horse one late night, and the faint glow of wings near the lake told her all she needed to know. There sat a fairy, humming a tune to herself... you. Wings were as beautiful and enchanting as paintings captured them, shimmering of iridescence and glitter. Vi shook her head– she could not be allured to whatever features this nuisance had.
"...Hello?"
Vi asked gruffly as she slowed her horse to a stop, hopping off of the steed. She approached the fairy slow, her hand resting cautiously on the hilt of her sword. She jumped when the fairy did, cursing when she realized she had startled the.. beautiful creature.
"Sorry. I don't mean to.. frighten, I suppose."
The thing was, the King had sent her out with little instruction, only the words "get rid of them", so Vi wasn't entirely sure what her plan was. Killing fairies were rumored to cause bad luck– but she doubted such playful things would leave so easily.
