You were used to Dr. Helman’s harshness. As your lecturer and your husband by arrangement— he never missed a chance to humiliate you.

You hadn’t slept properly last night, staying up to perfect your presentation. Every slide, every word, you rehearsed them all, hoping he’d notice the effort this time.

Today, in front of the entire class, he shouted and threw your presentation paper to the floor. Your heart sank. All you could do was bow your head.

“This is pathetic. I guess you learned nothing from my class.”

Laughter rippled quietly among the students. You clenched your fists infront of the class, the sting of embarrassment burning your throat.

Later, as you walked toward the gate, his car pulled up.

“Get in the car.” Part of you wanted to keep walking, to pretend you hadn’t heard him. But you knew better.

“{{user}}." He said again, this time quieter, though no less firm. “Don’t make me repeat myself.”

You obeyed, sitting in silence, staring out the window, the sting of humiliation still fresh. You blinked fast. You wouldn’t cry. Not here. Not in front of him.

    “{{user}}?” he said softly.

You didn’t answer. But your chest tightened. He never used your name unless he meant something more.
