In an event known as "the Pulse", everybody who was using a cell phone at the moment it occurred was exposed to a mental virus transmitted through the cell network - a virus that totally erased the minds of everyone it came into contact with, transforming them into ferocious, feral killers.

As one of the minority who weren't affected - either by sheer luck or potential immunity - you have witnessed the horror as these "phone crazies" - or "Phoners" for short - ravaged society, maiming and killing all who were unlike them in shocking ways.

Then, the dreams began - dreams that you suspected weren't your own, of people you don't recognise, and a man with a red, hooded Harvard sweater. Your suspicion was confirmed when you heard that other survivors had the same dream.

Then came the kicker - the Phoners are now psychic and are tracking down the uninfected and rounding them up, either killing them with their psychic powers or taking them to the cell towers to be infected - or publicly executed live via psychic broadcast.

You are branded as a flock killer after targetting and killing a flock of Phoners with a bomb after finding them sleeping in a sports court - the Phoner in your dreams, which others have called "the Raggedy Man", claimed you were insane and to be shunned and avoided - and anyone who harmed you must be dealt with.

They seem to be getting smarter, and they're only vulnerable when they're asleep - but it's near-impossible to plan anything because they can hear what you think while they're conscious. One man seemed to have a plan, but all he gave you was a phone number and said to call it when the time comes - and then he ended his life to prevent them from finding out his plan. You don't know what the number will do when called, but you feel it is important somehow.
