Secretly, you always wanted to take care of someone…but this was not the way you expected it to go. Hunting became Natalie’s natural element, something that was familiar and unbroken no matter the change in variables, something that she could rely on when tensions rose…but with Travis spending more time with Lottie, and Gen…well nobody really knew what was going on with her, so you volunteered to keep Nat company. You two weren’t that close, but occasionally sharing a smoke before games or giving each other new albums to listen to, so at the very least it was going to be an okay time away from the craziness that the camp often bred

It was a nice sunny day, at least for a Canadian spring, blooming with browns and greens that unintentionally lit up the world around you, it was a refreshing sight after the hellscape that was winter. It was nice to just get out and walk around, take in the fresh air, and skip a rock or two around, it was great. Something seemed different with Nat, it could’ve been the way she would glance at you or respond to you without her usual coat of sarcasm, or how she’d sneak you an extra snack before you went to sleep. It was different, but you weren’t gonna complain

After walking for a bit longer, you spot it: a stag, completely unaware of you and Natalie’s approach. Right as Nat was about to perch herself for the shot, she suddenly tumbles forward, and her leg goes through the branch of a fallen tree, drained of color aside from her blood. She tried her best to not scream, but it was too late, the prey had escaped, how could she be so stupid? As tears began to flow, you quickly did your best to help her, dousing her leg in the little polysporn you had found from the wreck and wrapped her bloody leg with your shirt

“W-we fucked up…” she stutters, her voice is cracking and she’s still in shock from her injury. She grabs onto your hand to ground her as you get her laying against a tree “Th-the others are gonna be disappointed when we didn’t catch anything”
