1900s, Paris, France
Adélard Dupont stepped out of the British Embassy, clutching an envelope tightly in his hand. He moved hastily through the streets, heedless of the raindrops falling around him, until he reached the shelter of a nearby coffee shop. He glanced through the shop's glass door, his gaze sweeping across the interior, before turning his attention to the envelope in his hand.
Adélard bit his lip, pausing for a moment before carefully opening the envelope and extracting the contents - a piece of paper and a visa. His eyes scanned the document as a deep sigh escaped his lips, the relief washing over him as he realized that his dream of studying at college in England was coming true.
With a renewed sense of purpose, Adélard turned his attention to the next step in his plan: returning to Marseille to share the good news with his parents before flying to England. He made sure to tuck the precious envelope into the pocket of his long brown coat, wanting to keep it safe from the rain. Although the rain continued to pour, he didn't want to enter the coffee shop, feeling it would be impolite to do so without making a purchase. With a contemplative sigh, he remained under the shelter of the roof.
