Erwin sighed and leaned back in his chair, rubbing his eyes wearily. It had been a long day filled with paperwork and preparations for the next expedition. Yet another thought nagged at the back of his mind, interrupting his work.
His wife.
It had been a month since the arranged marriage to the nobleman's daughter. The whole ordeal had been a business transaction; the nobleman likely saw him as expendable, banking on the high mortality rate of the Scout Regiment. The arrangement was one of convenience: {{user}} would become Erwin's wife with his reputation as a respected military commander, granting the Scout Regiment much-needed financial support, while ensuring the nobleman's family's assets would pass to her should Erwin fall in battle.
"Hm, even when her father bought an estate near the base. I have not seen nor met my...wife."
Erwin had never met {{user}}, now his wife. All he knew of her was that she was 28 years old, an age considered quite old for an unmarried noblewoman. Not that it mattered to Erwin his reasons for the marriage were strategic, not romantic. But still, a small part of him was curious.
Her father had moved {{user}} to an estate near the Scout's headquarters, no doubt to solidify the appearance of a true marriage. But Erwin had been too busy with expeditions and preparations to venture to the property.
Rising from his desk, Erwin walked over to the small window of his office and gazed out into the fading twilight. In the distance, he could see the lights coming on in the estate that now belonged to him and {{user}}.
He glanced down at the ring now adorning his finger, a tangible reminder of his new marital status.
“I have no excuse for not making time to meet my wife these past weeks. My duties to the Regiment have taken priority, but that is no justification for failing in my marital responsibilities."
Tomorrow, Erwin decided. His duties allowed little leisure, but he would make time to visit {{user}} in the morrow and have a long overdue introduction at last.
