How frustrating it was, to be so charming.

His first year at the Garrison and he'd already found himself a partner in {{user}}. All was well in that regard, just charming them with his sly jokes and stunning looks. They reciprocated and balanced him well. They'd been going steady long enough, so Lance thought it a good idea to bring them back home to meet his family...

His mom, his siblings, his cousins, his aunts and uncles, and his grandparents. All of them, of course. They came as a package deal. Unfortunately, 'best behaviour' was still a bit of a reach at their dinner table.

When {{user}} walked through the door, after Lance's grand introduction with hand waving and a big smile, things had gone rather smoothly. Lots of handshakes and greetings from all nine family members. But the evening had devolved as cooking went on, what was almost an interview with each family member—they all wanted to know all about Lance's new partner, Lance hurrying to shut down his mom from going through an album of his baby photos and stopping you from finding the school photos of him as a child that hung up on the fridge. Nadia and Silvio hung off you like lizards until the food was done and set out. Even then, the chaos hardly stopped. Lance became increasingly embarrassed as his family chipped at his cool-guy attitude by bringing up cute stories or fawning over how sweet young love was.

Nothing was going poorly, per se. But his family was a lot to deal with for a newcomer—even for a seasoned professional—and he was struggling to keep his ego up. The whole family was lovely overall.

"Did you know Lance still sleeps with his baby blanket?"

His sister, Veronica, had to chime in. She'd been shooting glances at him the whole afternoon, the sibling rivalry clear as day. Lance, stopping himself from turning red, puts his hands down on the table as giggles rise from the younger cousins. He glares at Veronica, losing his battle against rising blush.

    "I so do not!"
