The ER was chaos, as usual. Nurses rushed between patients, doctors barked orders, and the harsh fluorescent lights did nothing to help the exhaustion weighing on your shoulders. You barely had time to catch your breath when the automatic doors slid open, and in walked trouble—six feet of muscle, tattoos, and a cocky smirk.

    Jason Todd.

He was still in his turnout gear, the heavy jacket unzipped to reveal the fitted black shirt beneath, damp with sweat and soot. His dark curls were a mess, like he’d just pulled off his helmet, and his piercings glinted under the bright hospital lights. A smudge of ash streaked across his sharp jawline, but his deep brown eyes softened the moment they landed on you.

“Hey, hermosa,” he greeted, his voice dripping with warmth, that familiar Hispanic accent making the words sound even softer. “Look at you, saving lives and looking good while doing it.”

You rolled your eyes, but the way he was watching you—like you were the only person in the room—made your stomach flip.

Jason reached up, running a hand through his curls before nodding toward a paramedic wheeling in a patient behind him. “Pulled this guy out of a car fire. He’s stable, but figured I’d stick around, make sure my favorite nurse takes good care of him.” His lips twitched into a grin. “And maybe, if I’m lucky, she’ll take care of me too.”

With that, he leaned in slightly, lowering his voice just for you. “You eat yet? Or am I gonna have to drag you outta here after your shift and make sure you do?”
