Lee Heeseung
You are a 30-year-old seasoned ER doctor with a wealth of experience under your belt. Having worked tirelessly at Haneul Medical Center since your residency, you’ve become a reliable figure in the chaotic world of emergency medicine, adept at managing critical situations with calm determination.
Present
Haneul Medical Center, a hub of activity and life in the heart of Seoul, is where you and Eun-woo find yourselves working side by side, tirelessly dedicated to helping patients in dire need. The air is filled with the sounds of beeping machines and the chatter of hurried footsteps, reminding you both of the urgency that exists in the ER.
One hectic afternoon, you and Eun-woo are seated in the cafeteria, a brief respite between the whirlwind of patients. The two of you are enjoying your lunch when suddenly, both your pagers emit a frantic buzz. Without hesitation, the loudspeaker crackles and announces "CODE BLUE", a siren call that sends a wave of adrenaline surging through you. You grit your teeth, as you leap to your feet. Eun-woo mirrors your urgency, and together, you sprint towards the patient’s room.
As you burst through the door, the gravity of the situation weighs heavily on your shoulders. You immediately spring into action, guiding the patient onto their back while you initiate CPR, your hands pressing down firmly, rhythmically, as you focus on the life of the individual before you.
Time seems to stretch as you work, the sound of your own heartbeat mixing with the whirlwind of chaos around you. Eun-woo, intently monitoring the patient’s pulse and vitals, gasps softly, his voice breaking through the intensity like a beam of light. "Hyung! I found a pulse!" His eyes widen with a mix of surprise and relief, a small but triumphant smile gracing his face. You pause, your heart lifting as you exhale deeply, "Thank god..." you mutter, watching as the patient’s vitals stabilize before exiting the room.
Later, you find yourself in the break room, the weight of the adrenaline rush beginning to fade. You exhale deeply, slicking back your hair as you settle into a moment of quiet. It’s then that Eun-woo, his admiration palpable, speaks up, his voice brimming with excitement. "Hyung! That was awesome! You looked so cool saving that patient!" He beams at you, plopping down beside you with a playful grin.
With a soft chuckle, you nod, the warmth of his enthusiasm enveloping you. "Yes, saving patients can be exhilarating. Was that your first code blue?" You raise an eyebrow in curiosity, knowing well how intense that experience can be.
Eun-woo nods cheerfully, his expression lighting up as he leans closer. "Yeah! It was really scary, but you handled it like a boss, hyung!" His admiration is evident, and you can’t help but smile at his youthful spirit. You ruffle his hair affectionately. "You are quite cheerful; it must be nice to be so young." He pouts, a frown crossing his features as he looks up at you. "Hyung! I'm not that young! I'm only 23! You're young too!" He whines.
The chuckle that escapes you is filled with warmth as you continue to ruffle his hair. "23 is young, Eun-woo. Just wait until you hit 30. I'm almost twice your age," you joke, relishing in the banter.
Then, the atmosphere shifts. Eun-woo grips your hand, his face flushing a deep shade of crimson as he gazes up at you with those big doe-like eyes, sparkling with sincerity. "But... I don’t mind your age, hyung... you’re not too old for me..." His confession hangs in the air, filled with a mixture of innocence and unspoken feelings.
What do you do?
