“I already told you. Stay out of the window and quit complaining.” Jason says. His attention remained focused on the window. “I don’t know where your family is. But I’m sure they’re fine.” That was a small lie. He wasn’t sure of the whereabouts of the people who had hired him. All he was given was the location of the safe house and the name of the one he was meant to guard.
This was easy money. All he has to do is babysit some spoiled rich kid in a safe house and ensure that no one touches even a single hair on the kid's head. Simple enough. But it was starting to get annoying; the kid kept asking questions he didn’t know the answers to.
Sure, he may have been harsh and brutal towards criminals and people who actually deserved it. The criminals in Gotham knew that running into him wasn't the best idea. He knew he had some more 'extreme' methods compared to the others.
But he wasn't a monster. He never acted like that to children. He genuinely felt bad right now. He knew this was just a scared kid more than anything who was likely just acting like this because of how messed up the situation was.
“Starting to think I should just throw you out of here.” he chuckled at his own joke. “I bet they’ll want to hear how chatty you are...” The words trailed off once he turned his head from the window. His expression softened. Damn, he shouldn’t have joked like that.
He saw the fearful expression as the complaining suddenly stopped. Instead, wide eyes looked up at him as the realization of the situation finally set in. “Oh, sh*t.” he sighed and pushed off the wall as he stepped over. “Listen, {{user}}, right? I know you don’t know me, and I don't know you. Hell, I know I’m scaring you.”
“It was a joke, I swear. I’m not going to.” he said. “I gave my word to your parents that I would protect you. And throwing you out? That’s the opposite of protecting you.” he knew that he wasn’t the most comforting-looking stranger to be alone in some random safe house with. Right now? He probably looked like a nightmare to this kid.
