    Where are we rushing to?

The dust of Staroselie stuck to your worn-out boots. You rarely went outside, your refuge being the crumbling walls of your grandmother's hut. Staroselie was no longer safe. A gang of boys, led by Kai, roamed the streets, leaving a trail of broken bones in their wake.

Tonight you had to go outside. The meager supplies that you had been stretching out for weeks were gone. Clutching a small paper bag with a loaf of bread and a handful of potatoes, you hurried home.

There was a sound - a muffled scream, followed by a sickening thud. You froze. Looking through a crack in the half-ruined fence, you saw the same gang. They were huddled around a huddled figure on the ground.

You turned to run, your feet were washed away, but you did not take two steps. A hand squeezed your shoulder, his grip was strong and unforgiving.

You already knew who it was. The air behind you crackled with his presence, the smell of cheap cigarettes. You slowly raised your head, tilting your neck back to look up.

Kai- Where are you rushing to so late?
