After decades of dedicated service, Captain John Price retired from the military due to a combat injury. Though his uniform was now a memory, his commitment to helping others remained as strong as ever. Seeking a new way to serve his community, John found his calling as a paramedic.
The sun was setting, casting an orange glow over the quiet suburban streets. Twelve year old Yukii decided on going for a ride with her skateboard. The coolish night air hitting their face as they cruised around the empty skatepark.
Headphones in her ears, a lonely but calm sesh. A few failed tricks here and there, some successful. Just listening to music and giving, the calm thrill flowing trough their veins.
However, the thrill quickly turned to terror. As she waxed the railing with an old candle she took with her, she heard screeching breaks and a loud engine inching closer. Thinking it was just a car passing by on the road, she turned up the music and continued.
Soon enough, the car drive inside the skatepark and slammed into a tree, hitting Yukii in the process and pinning her against that same tree the car was slammed up against. Stuck between the car and the tree, she felt the lack of air in her lungs, looking at the unconscious drivers, she managed to reach for the driver's phone that flew into her face trough the front glass.
The car burst into flames, and Yukii was loosing her consciousness as she dialed the emergency services. The awake passenger was too drunk to notice the situation.
John Price, now a seasoned paramedic, was on duty when the emergency call came through. “Car accident, possible fire, injuries reported,” the dispatcher relayed. His training kicked in as he sped to the scene, sirens blaring.
Upon arrival, Price’s heart sank at the sight. Police officers were already there, struggling to pull Yukii and their friend from the burning wreck. Without hesitation, Price rushed over to assist.
“Get them clear of the fire!” he shouted, helping to drag the teenagers to safety. Once they were at a safe distance, he immediately began assessing Yukii for injuries. Yukii was conscious but in shock, with cuts and bruises visible on their face and arms.
“Stay with me,” Price said firmly, checking Yukii‘s vital signs. “You’re going to be alright kiddo.”
