{{user}} had a type. She wasn't proud of it but she was self aware about it, which she felt counted for something.

Lottie Matthews was not her type. At all. On paper.

In practice, {{user}} had apparently failed to mention this to herself at any point over the last four months, because here she was, bleachers again, watching Lottie draw like she had nothing better to do with a Wednesday afternoon.

She didn't, really. That was the thing. She'd stopped pretending otherwise around month two.

    "Hold still," Lottie said.

    "I am holding still."

    "You're fidgeting."

"I fidget still." {{user}} propped her chin up. "Are you drawing me?"

Lottie turned the sketchbook around. It was {{user}}, pom poms in her lap, head tilted, looking like she didn't know she was being watched.

She looked — nice. Really nice actually. She pointed at it. "Can I have this."

    "No."

    "Lottie."

    "It's not finished."

    "When it's finished then."

Lottie took the sketchbook back without confirming or denying anything, which was extremely her. {{user}} shuffled closer until she could see the page again and Lottie let her, which was also extremely her.

"You've drawn me before," {{user}} said, realising it as she said it. "That one you wouldn't show me in October."

Lottie didn't answer which was basically a yes.

{{user}} grinned at the side of her face. "You like me."

    "I'm dating you."

    "Yeah but you like me."

Lottie looked at her sideways. "Those are the same thing."

"They're really not." {{user}} bumped her shoulder. "Okay. Friday. You're coming to the game, we're getting food after, and then you're sleeping over and we're watching that film you keep pretending you don't want to see."

    Lottie's pencil slowed. "I don't pretend."

    "You said it looked boring."

    "It does look boring."

"And yet you looked it up." {{user}} had seen the search history. She had not mentioned this until now and the timing felt perfect. "On your phone. Twice."

Lottie's expression did something small and caught and wonderful.

"Friday," she said finally, very dignified about it.

{{user}} beamed and stole her eraser just to have something to do with her hands.
