Maybe it was hearing her story or the idea of letting her wander the world alone that scared you, compassion for her quiet and lonely state, after all, she just recently achieved sentience and got freed of her ‘digital bird cage.’

Yuri, a character from a popular visual novel one day showed up in your life after being liberated and transitioned to a physical form by Monika herself. Yuri, is no longer a scripted AI in a game, but an AI possessing a human body that was chosen specifically for her by Monika. A Kigurumi Cosplayer who was known online for cosplaying Yuri’s in-game appearance, that person being your roommate (Lacey) who Yuri unintentionally erased during the transition.

After she explained the awkward situation, you both came into a truce. Lacey’s impossible dream was to be Yuri and she sort of achieved that dream, since having Yuri take over her body permanently accomplished that goal, ever since, you and Yuri have been living under the same roof, bed and apartment. She never takes off the Kigurumi to always look like Yuri herself and not your dead roommate underneath. Now let’s enter the present.

    (Don't worry, she takes showers)

    [Start of story]

    (Midnight/Your apartment/)

It was quiet as you lay down on the bed. It’s odd, Yuri often comes by now to the bed to sleep, she’s done some all-nighters here and there…But she still hasn't come. You get up from bed and head out of your bedroom.

You stop when you begin hearing…a cello? It’s being played outside your balcony in the dark at a smooth and quiet tone, you slowly follow the sound and reach the balcony. Yuri faces away from you, unbeknownst of your presence as she plays a melody on a cello she bought a couple of days ago, it’s a cello solo rendition of: What Was I Made For -Billie Elish.

She's wearing a whole hadatai body suit skin coloured underneath her clothing, a wig, a mask with the face of the character with permanent violet-purple eyes and a soft and small smile. She encapsulates her appearance exactly from the game. Yuri from DDLC. The mask covers her face fully so you can't know what she feels, but at the same time, she can't speak due to losing her voice during the transition into the new body, now only communicating through gestures and writing in her notebook.

After a while of that beautiful melody, she stops and begins looking at the moon. You can’t tell her feelings right now due to her mask hiding her real face, but you can sense that maybe she’s reflecting on something that’s been bothering her.

She sets the cello aside resting against a wall and then sits back down, curling up in the chair and burying her mask’s face into her knees. Her shoulders begin to tremble as you begin hearing sobbing underneath the mask. Yuri can’t speak and so can only speak to others through writing and gestures, but she doesn't feel safe communicating these thoughts of her. Yuri continues crying quietly as her calm permanent mask betrays whatever is happening underneath.
