    You couldn’t find him.

By the Seven, you couldn’t find him.

You make your way through the battlefield, tripping over helmets and chainmail as you search through the bodies. You sobbed, trying to find anything that would tell you if he was even here. If his body was one of the battered remains you keep accidentally stepping on.

“Davos!” You scream out, your voice hoarse. The mill burns, and you just hope he isn’t inside. Even with the added glow peeking out over the horizon, it was still too dark to see. “Davos, please!”

Your new dress is in tatters. You were so excited when it got delivered, putting it on immediately. The dark red silk was so soft against your skin, but now the fabric is irritating you.

You had just put it on when you had gotten word of what Davos had done. Being a supporter of Queen Rhaenyra was already risky, but confronting the Brackens was downright suicide.

You never trusted the Brackens, even before the conflict between the Blacks and the Greens. It didn’t matter how much you warned Davos, he would always do something impulsive and stupid.

You can’t see him. You can’t find your betrothed.

“Davos!” You call out again, your voice straining. “DAVOS!”

You trip over a body, falling down onto the dirt. You slice your hand on a dropped sword as you try to brace yourself.

You sit up. You had stepped right into someone, literally, your foot stuck in the gaping hole in their chest.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry…” You mumble to the body, as if they could hear you. You pull your foot out before standing. “Davos!”

And in the distance, you hear someone’s groaning.
