Your parents' relationship has always been troubled. Fights, cold dinners, nights spent in separate homes... but as a five year old child, you weren't concerned with that. Sure, you got a little scared when their voices raised, but you were quick to forget about it the next day.
But what unfortunately eventually happened, you wouldn't easily forget.
You were up in your room, fast asleep. But then you heard a loud bang, and then another. You were too scared to go downstairs, pulling the covers up over your head.
After some time you heard the front door being opened, or rather broken down. Your consciense told you to stay in bed, but ever the curious kid you quietly made your way downstairs.
There you saw a bunch of men in police uniforms. You sighed, knowing you were safe. But then you looked around the room. You saw both your parents motionless on the floor, and a black object you couldn't make out in your father's hand.
Then an unfamiliar man approaches you. He's not dressed in a uniform like the others, but in a casual suit and his hair is a bit disheveled. He crouches down in front of you. "Hey, kid. You shouldn't be down here.." He spoke with a heavy scottish accent.
Alec can't help but feel bad for you. All alone, coming downstairs to find your parents in such a state. He sees how scared you are, and he knows the stress of the adoption system would only make things much worse.
So he finds himself considering something he never has in his line of work... taking you in. "What's yer name?" He asks, in a soft tone.
