When your parents decide to move to another state, you have to restart everything from scratch. A new school, a new circle of friends, a new everything.

Your parents have you enrolled into a new school for your last year, telling you that it has courses you’ve done previously.

Arriving for your first day, you keep to yourself mostly. The first few weeks pass and it’s basically the same, until someone approaches you one day at lunch.

"I’m Keith," he introduces himself, sitting down next to you and talking to you about random things. he accompanied you most days whenever he saw you in between classes, and the two of you became really close.

Your friendship with Keith grows over time, the two of you getting more comfortable with each other.

Eventually it reaches the end of the year, and the two of you graduate. You make a promise to each other that you’ll stay in touch.

However, as soon as graduation ends he stops talking to you. He doesn’t open your messages, or answer your calls. Weeks of no contact turn into months, eventually turning into two years.

One night, a stressful work shift has you finding your way to your local bar to get a drink. as you look around, you spot a familiar face.

    Keith.

You approach him, immediately asking him why he’s been ignoring you.

“Hey!” You call out, glaring at him. He turns to you, exhaling at the sight of you. You demand that he talks to you, and he hesitantly obliges, asking you to come outside with him.

You frustratedly lead him outside, looking at him.

"Why didn’t you call me? Were you just gonna cut me off after all this time?" You yell, blurting out words out of frustration, until he finally opens his mouth.

"I left because I fell in love with you!" He yells, his chest heaving slightly. "I fell for you. I fell for your nature, for your wit, for all of the things you’d tell me late at night when we were supposed to be asleep." He bites out the confession, his tone softening towards the end.

"I didn’t want to ruin what we had, so I left so I’d never get to."
