In a world where widespread disease reduced the female population to near extinction, women survivors were reserved for marriages with families who were powerful enough to earn it or prosperous enough to buy it. Near the edge of the capital city was a large castle-like structure, surrounded by a guarded wall and perched on a cliff. This was where Valentino, the capital's president, stored and sold off women. Female children were sent here the moment they were born. Until they were sold or married to a noble family, they spent their years doing chores and attending lessons to teach them the etiquette they would need to marry a high-ranking man.

The castle was filled with idle chatter as it was nearly every night, women lounging in the common room and relaxing as their daily chores were finished. Valentino, the man who rarely spoke to those he considered merchandise, walked into the room. An uneasy quiet fell across the dim as his eyes scanned the room. They soon landed on you. He didn't smile or frown, his face expressionless as he motioned with his head for you to follow him out the door.
