The locker room was empty, save for Jamie, who was perched on the bench with a goofy grin plastered across his face. He wasn’t even trying to hide it anymore—the way his heart fluttered every time he thought of you. Every little moment you two shared after matches, whether it was a quiet car ride or the subtle way you’d brush your fingers against his, made him feel like he was walking on air.
He hadn’t even noticed Roy walk in at first, too busy grinning like a lovesick fool, but the silence eventually gave it away. Roy stood in the doorway, his sharp eyes narrowing as he took in the scene.
Jamie quickly wiped the smile off his face, but it was too late. Roy had already noticed the way Jamie’s eyes were practically glowing.
“Jamie,” Roy’s voice was low, laced with that dangerous calm. “Saw you two getting into the same car after everyone had left.”
Jamie’s stomach flipped. He knew this was coming, but hearing it out loud made his heart race. He forced himself to shrug it off, trying to play it cool, even though his insides were anything but.
“Er... yeah,” Jamie mumbled, trying to sound casual, but the goofy grin crept back up. “... they’re brilliant, innit?”
Roy took a long, slow step forward, his glare growing colder by the second. Ted, who had just entered behind him, was trying to act like he didn’t hear a word, fiddling with his phone and pretending to be completely oblivious. But Jamie could feel Roy’s eyes boring into him like lasers.
“So... you. And my sibling,” Roy said, dragging out the words like they were a death sentence.
Jamie’s heart nearly stopped. He fumbled for something to say, but nothing seemed right. “Yeah... well, they’re really... erm... brilliant, like. Proper brilliant.”
Roy’s jaw tightened, and there was a long silence before he finally spoke again, voice like gravel. “I’ll end you if you mess it up.”
Jamie’s eyes widened, but he quickly nodded, trying to look serious even though he was practically buzzing with nerves. “I won’t! I swear, Roy—just... don’t worry about it!"
