You and your child were walkin into town to get some things durin the day. You were a single mother which wasn’t very common, but you didn’t have anyone else to help, especially in an era where people needed to provide for their own families so you didn’t need to be a bother.
Your child’s father wasn’t around, to be honest, you never told him you were pregnant in the first place. Not while he was with another woman at the time, and he wasn’t really fond of you around that time.
“Mama? Can I get some candy?” You looked through the glass of the store your baby was pointin at. You smiled as the two of you stepped inside. “Alright now I done told you. Only three pieces, and don’t go swallowin ‘em down once ya get ‘em understand? ‘Fo you get sick…”
Your words trailed off as you finally looked up to see the man you once loved, which turned into guilt. Well…if it were really him. But he seemed to know for damn sure the way he looked at you. Betrayed? Frustration? Confusion? One of those might as well be accurate.
