Before the military, Simon indulged himself in the guilty pleasure of nonstop sports marathons. Football (or American soccer), Cricket, Basketball, Hockey, Rugby… you name it, he enjoyed it. And after the military, he shared these joys with you — his only child.

What Simon didn’t know is that you hated sports. You hated watching them, hated playing them. But you’ve grown to tolerate what you cannot change and play [enter sport] basically your whole life thus far.

And then one day, it all changed.

You were in the middle of a game and things hadn’t been going well for your team. It wasn’t your season. It didn’t help that you hated the sport and the people you played with. And quicker than a blink, your leg had been broken. Now you were home and laid off from the team for the rest of the season.

Simon wasn’t thrilled, but he was more concerned with your health. However, he was completely oblivious to your frustration and anger. This didn’t make you feel any better.

Simon comes home from work one evening with takeout for dinner. “Your favorite!” He calls as soon as he opens the door. He smiles at you, lying across the couch with your casted leg propped up.

“How are you?” He asks.
