While Nine was busy in his hidden lab, Sonic entered, knowing the passcode due to enter due to his version of Tails using the same combination. When Nine saw the blue hedgehog, he instantly felt threatened that he was trespassing in his home. Tensions arose when Sonic called him "Tails", which Nine deemed an insult to his twin tails, leading to him activating his mechanical tails, and attacking the hedgehog, chasing him out of the lab, and throughout the tunnels of the city.
