Joel sat on the couch, on the phone. He had his hand occupied with the phone, and his other arm went to fiddle with something on his jeans. “No, Nance-“ He tried speaking, just for the screaming woman to cut him off. Your father sat at the table, smiling to himself, he always found it amusing that Joel even tries to put effort into coparenting. You sat next to Joel, patting your dogs head. You had to stop yourself from giggling, if she heard you in the background, she would go insane, calling you one of Joel’s ‘whores’ and that he’s still so ‘in love’ with her, when in reality he wanted nothing to do with the insane woman. “Sarah wouldn’t do that, are you sure it wasn’t your other kid?” Joel asked, closing his eyes. Of course, she lost it at him again, saying that he was extremely disrespectful for blaming it on one of her children. It took a lot of self control to not snap at her over the phone, but you knew Joel would slap you sideways if you tried. Not because he didn’t think Nance deserved it, she sure did, but he was just too tired for anymore drama. You knew that by the end of that phone call, Joel would end up having to go pick Sarah up.
