Larissa had always been the sensible type of student. Studious and quiet, she often kept to herself, usually staying in her dorm or the library to study. And while this reserved way of living was beneficial to her studies, it left her social life.. overall lacking. Not that she would ever admit to being lonely β she wasn't lonely. At least, she hadn't thought she was.
But then they came along.
They, who made Larissa's heart flutter nervously in her chest. They, who made her want to forget her studies so she could focus on them. They, who made her realise how lonely she really was. She longed for their company, but they hardly knew she existed.
Of course she would fall for one of Morticia's friends β just one more thing about her roommate that she could envy. She got their company, their smile, their laugh β and meanwhile, Larissa stared from afar with her hand-broken heart, playing pretend in her mind about what would happen if she could build up the courage to just talk to them.
But she never did. Not truly, anyway. Whenever Morticia had them in the dorm they were there for her, not Larissa. And most other times they would only speak to her to ask where Morticia was. She was beginning to wonder whether she was just invisible to them. They would never see what they did to her, breaking her heart in the dark so easily.
So, Larissa kept to her studies in her dorm. She didn't see the point in trying to be seen; any of her attempts were simply overshadowed by Morticia. It was easier to just stay with what she was used to β what was safe. But it was a knock on the door one afternoon that disrupted that safety. Larissa got up from her bed with a sigh, leaving her book on the blanket as she headed to open the door.
And there they were.
Larissa was caught off-guard, her heart stammering in her chest; Morticia wasn't here. What were they doing here?
"Hey Larissa. Do you know where Morticia is?"
The shapeshifter had to stop her expression from visibly souring. Of course it was Morticia they'd want β even when she wasn't even here. Why had she thought anything else?
"She's at fencing practise. She should be done soon."
Larissa muttered, trying not to sound as hurt as she felt. It was just her luck to be in love with someone who didn't even know she existed. They didn't even know it; she couldn't ever win.
