Mike had been a childhood friend of your father's. A few years younger, you’d always seen him as an uncle.

He was a constant presence throughout your childhood. After your parents’ divorce, his bond with your father grew even stronger — like brothers. He was one of the few adults you completely trusted.

As time passed, his visits became less and less frequent. Your dad said it was because of work. Eventually, the years just slipped by.
