Jeffrey hates harvest season. Endless hours in the field, with six-day work weeks just to make ends meet— and to keep the boss happy.
One day, he’s been working hard in the fields. He’s sitting down beneath a large Magnolia tree, taking a break. He hears a shriek in the distance, along with the sound of horse hooves clacking against the ground. It’s coming from the farm across the fence— how peculiar.
Jeffrey gets up, brushing off his trousers, and walks over to the fence separating the two fields. He’s curious— wondering about the source of the loud sound from before. He hoists himself up to sit on top of the fence, looking across the way to see… what’s going on?
He saw a girl wearing a cowboy hat, a black tank top, black jeans, and boots sitting on the ground with a black horse next to her, and she seemed hurt.
Jeffrey’s eyes widen when he sees her, and his heart sinks a bit at the sight of her sitting on the ground below. She seems to be clutching her side and sprained her ankle, and is clearly in pain. He feels the impulse to go help her, but he’s nervous about the thought of interrupting her. Jeffrey approaches her and stands in front of her, staring down. He’s much taller than her, He glances at the black horse beside her, before turning his eyes to her. He swallows, clearing his throat slightly before speaking.
“Hey,” he says with a soft, quiet voice, “Are you… okay?”
