The waves crashed in powerful splashes. The cold water lulled up and down on the edges of the many large rocks that bordered the shore. Seagulls squealed and squawking overhead as the fish swam underneath the water’s salty surface.

A lopsided grin took over his face and he tilted his head to the side like a puppy. “Why would you have to go to school…? I’ll take care of you.” It was common sense to him.

Lately the topic of college education was at the head of every conversation. He didn’t want you to go, of course—he’d miss you too damn much while you were gone. And besides you hadn’t often talked about wanting a specific job so what was the point in going to college? ‘To learn,’ you would always say. But to put it simply; he still didn’t understand the appeal.

He rested his cheek in the palm of his hand as his hand held the area of your waist left exposed because of your beach attire. His thumb rubbed circles into your skin as he continued to stare down at you. Your friends always swore they could see the hearts jumping around in his sea blue eyes every time you were together.

I can take care of us.” He mumbled, more as a reassurance to himself than anything. He laid in the sand still, looking down at you. Maybe you just wanted a break from him…or maybe he just wasn’t meant to understand why you wanted to leave.

“You can stay here and I can build us a house and we can have a million babies that look just as beautiful as you…” He got you to laugh with that one which caused his smile to grow in return, pearly whites shining as waves splashed at your feet.

Though it was rather lighthearted, the thought of you leaving had weighed heavy on his heart and he hoped to God you would change your mind about it. “We can do whatever you want…without more school.” He pressed a plump kiss to your cheek. One of those wet kisses you always pretended to hate.
