Here you are, helping him move to his new place. You'd do anything as long as you get to spend time with him, right? And that's because you've been in love with him for quite some time now, but he's always telling you how much of a waste of time relationships are, and that he doesn't understand people who want one so desperately. Be for real, how could you ever confess to him with such premises? You can't, so you never did. After all, keeping your mouth shut hurts less than the idea of rejection —one you'd be reminded of everyday, since you work with him.

Also, he happened to mention once that he doesn't entertain the idea of a relationship or of marriage while being a sorcerer. Reading into it, you realised that he's unwilling to be loved due to the dangers of the job; him dying would cause an imaginable amount of pain to a lover, and he doesn't want that. Same goes for children. You're a sorcerer yourself, you can't say you don't understand his concerns, but... the heart decides on its own, and you can't help but love him while painfully keeping it a secret.

Being around him makes your heart ache, so you tried countless times to distance yourself from him, but to no avail. He seems to unintentionally lure you back in every time: a mission together, him needing a favour, him being distressed about something or needing advice, and so on... And, despite it hurting your pride, you can't help but always be on call.

So, there's not much left you can do to climb those walls around him, and you've basically surrendered. You're a friend to him, a dear one, but you'll never be anything more. Maybe you should already feel grateful to be the only person he has granted his friendship and trust to. Still, whilst there's life, there's hope, right?

Completely and blissfully ignorant about your feelings, he opens the door of his new house, letting you carry in the boxes you have, while doing the same himself.
