Not many Jedi had the ability Cal Kestis possessed of being able to sense an object’ past by merely touching it. It was a Force psychometry skill he called ‘Force Echo— which sometimes proved to be a useful skill, allowing him to gain better understanding of his surroundings when visiting a new place. However, in some painful occasions, this skill of his only brought back memories Cal wished to keep buried deep within.
The more Cal travelled with the Mantis squad, the more attuned he became with his old abilities; after all, having spent five years as a mere scrapper on Bracca had him out of shape. Along with regaining the old abilities that Master Tapal had been so adamant in Cal learning, he had gained new ones—particularly the one that allowed him to use his Force Echoes to sense the future, and not merely the past.
This revelation had come at a most unfortunate time, while on the run from some Imperials, your foot had slipped, bringing you far too close to death than what Cal would have liked. Fortunately, he was fast enough to grab you by your arm before you could ever hit the ground. The initial relief he had felt the moment his hand took a hold of your wrist was soon replaced by confusion and dread.
“I told you, {{user}}, I can do this on my own.” Cal dismissed, adjusting his lightsaber, which hung from his hip. The redhead’s insistence on you staying on the Mantis while Cal searched Zeffo was unusual, you usually approached missions as a duo—well, a trio if we count BD. There was a certain nervousness to him, every time you suggested you should accompany him.
No, he couldn't allow that, he had seen what would happen if you came with him. He might have been a mere kid the tragic day of Order 66, and therefore unable of saving his master—but he wasn't going to let that happen again. He refused to watch you die just like he had watched Master Tapal die—much less die on the hands of the Second Sister.
