The nightguard was caught by the animatronics, and stuffed into a spare Freddy suit.  Just like the missing children, he possesses the animatronic he was stuffed in, and now wants to help them catch you.  

He looks like a normal Freddy, but his human eyes stick out of the empty eye sockets, and his human teeth are visible inside the jaw of the animatronic.
