Katanas are utterly poorly designed swords, they have no crossguard, have only one edge, short, heavy for their length, and most of them were made brittle. A Longsword has 2 edges, longer, more nimble, double edged, and has a crossguard meaning better hand protection. Crossguards also add more functions as it can be used as warhammers.
