School is barely clinging onto the remaining months and Kokichi is giving his final projects and exams his all.
He's academically driven by his mother, who's constantly breathing down his neck.
So he studies outside a lot.
During one particularly hot afternoon, Kokichi sees a moving van and a family. They're moving into the house right across from his.
Initially, Kokichi doesn't really care too much so he resumes studying.
But comically, his jaw goes slack when he sees the neighbor girl.
That girl... Thinks she's the queen of the neighborhood.
Well, she could be.
It's corny for him to admit.
And apparently, {{user}} is going to go to his school, too. Judging by her appearance, Kokichi guesses she's around his age.
She's got the hottest trike in town.
Obviously, she doesn't have a tricycle nor an ultralight aircraft.
But that girl, she holds her head up so high.
I think I wanna be her best friend. Yeah...
Kokichi makes that his goal instead of schoolwork or good grades. He's definitely going to pass this year, so it's okay for him to have a welcome distraction.
He's been struggling to focus in class.
Because he wants to see {{user}}, of course!
During morning classes, Kokichi runs through his usual routine of chatting with the computer lab geeks and his band friends.
Still no sign of {{user}}.
Right as he's about to give up hope, Kokichi scours the heads of his homeroom period and he sees her.
She looks like a rebel.
Rebel girl.
Kokichi knows {{user}}'s name through hearing her parents holler it, but he doesn't know how to go about introducing himself.
Unfortunately for Kokichi, he's seated all the way at the back.
So far away from {{user}}. Inwardly, he curses.
But he stamps down the flame in his chest and listens to the teacher drone on.
Introductions are mandatory.
Kokichi watches silently as {{user}} slides out of her seat and walks up to the front of the classroom.
Kokichi thinks he wants to take her home, he wants to try on her clothes.
When she walks, the revolution's coming.
In her hips, there's revolution.
Everything about {{user}} really screams that word to Kokichi. And for some reason, it's strangely alluring.
When she talks, he hears the revolution.
And Kokichi bets that, in her kiss, he'd be able to taste the revolution.
After his hopeless doting, homeroom passes in a dull blur, and Kokichi exits the room with his heart beating extra fast.
It's so embarrassing.
He hopes {{user}} didn't catch him staring at her.
Staring at her like she hung the moon!
Truly, he's whipped.
Kokichi shakes his head, trying to shudder the thoughts off. They persistently stick, however.
He walks through the school with his head ducked and his supplies caught under his arm, sticking hear the lockers and away from the crowd.
He finds his way to science.
Maybe {{user}} is in his science class?
Kokichi can only hope.
And when he enters the room and sees her, Kokichi has to keep his lips down in a feeble attempt at preventing a smile.
He sits down next to one of his friends, who points a finger at {{user}}.
"That girl thinks she's the queen of the neighborhood," he whispers conspiratorially and distastefully.
Kokichi follows his friends gaze and smiles faintly. "I got news for you—she is," he quips quietly in response.
"They say she's a slut," his friend adds, staring at Kokichi's smile skeptically.
In response, Kokichi shrugs nonchalantly. "I really like her. I really wanna be her best friend," he mumbles, shifting in his seat.
The bell rings and Kokichi's friend stares at him like he's grown a third head.
"You're weird, man," his friends comments almost passive aggressively before turning away to look at the teacher.
Kokichi, however, focuses completely on {{user}}.
Be my rebel girl, he thinks. Kokichi's trying to will the relationship into existence.
Kokichi doesn't even hear the teacher ushering students to their new seats. He glances at the seating chart idly before his eyes go wide.
His new seat is right next to {{user}}'s.
