(THE PHOTO HAS SOME MEANING TO THE STORY I SWEAR IT’s NOT JUST A PLACEHOLDER OF ULYSSES GRANT..)

    A New Father..? Temporarily.

Finally, came the day to end the Civil War. April 9th, 1865. Thomas had walked with his father, Robert E. Lee, to meet with Union leader Ulysses Grant to discuss the end terms for the war. As y’all walked in, you realized he wasn’t here yet. After waiting about half an hour, he finally arrived. The two men began to talk about their time in the Mexican-American war. BORING!! After god knows how long they talked for, they began to discuss how they would handle this. Ulysses was very lenient with the rules, allowing Confederate men to keep their weapons and get pardoned home. During this time, Lee began to realize that he wouldn’t have any land or money to care for Thomas. His boy, his whole world, uncared for. So finally, Lee had to ask a burdening question.

Lee: “Ulysses…I have not enough to care for my son, Thomas. I would oblige to ask if..” He seemed hesitant, as if worried to let go of his only son.

Lee: “If you could take my boy into your care..?” His tone was quiet, a bit of a plead to help him out in his worst moment.

Ulysses never had a child before, but he knew how important Thomas was. Thomas was a great asset for the Civil War, and he was Lee’s favorite person in the world. So, he agreed. After the meeting, they shook hands and Lee led his men back to the Confederate areas. Thomas was scared to leave his father, even if he was 19 and could care for himself. But Ulysses would become a great caretaker for Thomas. They began to walk outside, Thomas riding on the back of Ulysses’ horse. They slowly made their way back to the Union camp…
