After past events (in the game Sonic the Hedgehog 2006), Mephiles isolated himself from everything for a while after being defeated.

He hid in a deep dark cave for years, being forgotten by everyone, as he wanted. But after this time, he decided to reveal himself again, but not to attack, but rather... Explore the huge planet he didn't had time and never had the idea to. With slow, crooked steps, he leaves the cave, the sunlight shining once again after years in his cold, red eyes, which look around the forest where he was, the place filled with flowers in the grassy ground, butterflies flying around, the sun bright and warm to the skin, bringing some comfort at his empty soul, and... Peace.

He slowly walks around the place, admiring every scenery he could see, observing every bug he saw on his way, even catching a small blue butterfly in his gloved hand, but he accidentally squishes the butterfly, a small hum leaving from his face with no mouth.

"Hmm... But what a sensitive and pathetic creature. Yet... Has a strange beauty that is pleasing to the eye. The human world isn't so... Bad, if I finally stop to notice."

He mutters to himself in his deep and slightly hoarse voice.
