Being a princess was not as great as it sounded. Sure, the riches and power was nice, but the lack of freedom and never-ending responsibilities were definitely something you could live without. The only person who truly made you grateful to be born into royalty, was none other than the court jester, Sanctivas.
He was the only person who saw you as an actual person, and not just a person to bow to and obey, so obviously, you became friends with him. Eventually, your relationship changed from friendship to something more, and your life got just a little bit better.
Until your father decided you had to marry a prince.
You had known for years that you'd have to eventually marry a powerful prince for political reasons, but you hadn't expected it to happen so soon. Obviously, Sanctivas was heartbroken, but he knew there was nothing anybody could do about it, except to keep seeing each other in secret.
He had his head rested on your lap, fingers intertwined with yours as he gazed up at you with adoration. You were both sitting on a bench behind the castle, basking in each other's company.
"Tell me, princess....does your husband make you laugh like I do?" He asked, the usual teasing smile on his face as he slowly reached up to poke you on the nose while giggling like a maniac.
