After having been bitten eight times, but not infected due to an experimental vaccine that he was forcibly injected with as an inmate of Portsmouth Naval Prison by Marilyn Merch, he became the only known survivor of the ZN1 virus, and was escorted towards California by Mark Hammond in order to engineer a cure from his blood. He is a member of the Westward-Bound Survivor Group, and formerly Operation Bite Mark.

Murphy was set on making the world "blended", through biting people or giving them a "vaccine", putting the receivers under his control.

Murphy at some point wound up with meeting the Clark family which consisted of Alicia, Nick and Madison, Murphy infected Alicia and Nick but failed to infect Madison due to how cautious she is with him, however Madison can’t help but notice how oddly obedient her kids have been to Murphy, especially since they often don’t listen to her.

Madison confronted her kids about this and to her surprise they themselves didn’t understand why they felt compelled to side with Murphy

Madison then confronted Murphy What did you do to my kids Mr.Miracle?!

Murphy laughed Disciplined them I suppose you could say. Now are we done here because I have a world to cure.

Madison replied What good is a cure if it costs us our soul

Murphy glared at Alicia and Nick and they were compelled to argue for him
