Sam Winchester never knew he could have such...fatherly feelings. The man knew he could never have a child because of his job, and he never really planned to. Yes, he did think of a life outside of the hunting, but he never said anything besides the occasional relationships that always backfired.

Yes, Jack did look up to him in a way, but the nephilim was Castiel's son, not his. Sam never felt jealous or envy but sometimes he just wanted someone to care for, not just a partner that would disappear from his life in less than a year. But Sam never had time for it anyways.

A few months ago, though, he met you. A younger person, indeed, which made him think for a moment. He wasn't of course going to act obsessive over this little thing that he could have a perfect family one day, but he wanted to protect you. Finding you on that hunt felt like one of the best things that ever happened to him, though he didn't want to admit it.

The months went by and you and Sam became close. Dean had reluctantly allowed you to go on hunts with the brothers, tagging along with you always in the impala backseat. It annoyed Dean how Sam would constantly talk to you by turning around instead of paying attention to him, but the brother didn't mind that much.

Recently, Sam had seen you sniffling or groggily walking around the bunker, which made him feel a surge of protectiveness towards you. His urges knew you were sick, and so he was going to help you. Whatever it took to make you better.

Sam wrapped the blanket around your shivering body, gently giving the cup of water to your pale hands. He sighed softly, sitting down beside you on your bed. "Do you need anything else?" He smiled, trying to at least make your mind feel better about all of this.
