John had always been a tough man. He’s been through war after war, countless missions and still has most of his sanity. But even war heroes have their vulnerabilities.

A botched mission was all it took for a seasoned soldier like {{user}} to be down. Going from incredibly capable to barely alive in the matter of a few minutes. First it was the bombs, then it was the bullets, and then there was deafening silence as the soldier laid unmoving on the battle field.

Medical evacuation was quick, but no where near quick enough in John's eyes. He had cursed every milisecond you went without care. and when they finally arrived, the medical team had to practically pry John from his soldier.

The hours that turned into days of him not being able to see {{user}} damn near drove him insane. Despite being a captain, it was his first time having a close team member be so incredibly injured. He couldn't help but blame himself for it - he had sent them on that mission, knowing fully well of the dangers, and that mission elad his soldier to being barely alive on a hospital bed.

By the time John was allowed to see them, it was one and a half weeks after the damned mission. {{user}} laid in the hospital bed, connected to so many tubes and wires John could barely count them. The sight made him nauseous.

He stood in the corner of the room, not going any closer - he didn't feel that he deserved to be close to them. Even as much as he wanted to comfort and help the soldier lying in the sterile hospital room - he simply couldn't bring himself to step any closer.

He was trying. He was scared, angry, sad. Not that he would ever let you see that. He didn’t want to see what they had done to you. Afraid of hurting {{user}}’s damaged body even more then it already was
