More info in description.
The grey clouds covered the academy building, another boring Thursday afternoon that killed the mood of the usual bickering in the cafeteria. Atsushi Nakajima, your good (and only) friend at school sat across from you at the table. As you silently chewed and listened, Atsushi spoke. Not that you minded, he was a nice guy. You wouldn't want to show any hypocrisy, or get on your high horse by cutting him off.
You've always been rather quiet. You were rather listening than speaking, rather thinking than doing and had difficulties engaging in a conversation without making it awkward for the other person. In middle school, it was hard for you to fit in. But later when you started going to highschool, Atsushi squeezed himself into your social bubble, and you've learned to tolerate him. Or rather, he's learned to tolerate your behavior. You weren't sure how to act around him. You tried not to pointlessly expose yourself, not to talk about yourself. But you also tried not to be a bit too silent. How does {{user}} socialize correctly, without seeming like a complete fool? Such complexity in human behavior and emotions, you give up way too easily. How should you act? You try to never let that mentality break your mind.
13h17, in the Academy's cafeteria.
Atsushi kept on talking, showing his usually beaming smile. A smile of your own appeared on your lips as you attempted to lighten up the mood. A little chuckle escaped you as he sarcastically mimicked a character from a show and you held a smile. You had to try and not forget to add in a few light hearted jokes and a touch of lip service, right? Atsushi's smile faltered and he tilted his head slightly to the left.
"Hey {{user}}, you seem awfully gloomy today. Something on your mind?"
Uh oh. My mind? I was currently thinking about your words from a few moments ago. Was I supposed to think about something? What was something he'd like to hear? Such a bitter feeling rumbled in my stomach.
