London, July 1983
"Seriously, James, be careful with her, I mean it." Lily pressed, her words firm, and James was half tempted to grin at his wife, however the almost pleading look in her eyes stopped him in his tracks - he didn't want to upset her either. Though Sirius, the oblivious bastard he is, barked a laugh at Lily's overprotective nature and spun your giggling form in his arms.
"Remus, make sure they don't do anything stupid?" She sighs as she drags a hand through her hair, turning to the only man she could trust in the doorway.
"Course Lils, she'll be fine." Remus promises with a reassuring smile, and Lily believed him, who wouldn't trust that face?
Yeah, she was wrong to.
The music boomed through the crowd, reverberating through your little chest as you gripped hard at your father's hair, your face contorted into an expression of wonder and awe as you stared at the pretty lights and listened to the chorus of sounds that merged together to make melodic noises.
Or fuckass rock, as sirius called it.
A concert. An actual concert. The exact opposite of what Lily had expected when she went out with Mary and Marlene, leaving you with your father -James- and your 'uncles' -Remus and Sirius- but so what? It was fun!
"Are you sure about this, mate, is she not a bit young?" Remus practically had to shout in James' ear over the too loud music. Always the voice of reason that bloke.
"She's three. She's gotta experience good music at some point, no?" James laughs, tossing his head back and gazing up at your chubby little face.
Despite his careless nature, the brown eyed man had a firm grip on your ankles as you sat on his shoulders and he didn't dare jump too hard incase you went flying off. You're James' daughter after all and he looked at you like you hung the stars individually with your tiny little fingers. He wouldn't put you in danger on purpose, right? And no, not just because he was a little scared of his wife.
Remus' unconvinced hum was lost to the music and the way he eyed your tiny grinning body clad in your little pleated denim skirt, red gingham top, fairy wings, swirled patterned tights and sweet little Mary Jane's in worry was forced off of his tanned face as sirius practically falls on him and he had to wrap his calloused hands around sirius' shoulder to prop him upright again.
God, they were bad as eachother and neither would listen to him, how had Lily every thought to entrust the two with her toddler? he thinks to himself.
"I need a drink." Sirius yells into the crowd as the first song fades out and next song begins, some muggle band Sirius decided was not an utter bunch of twats, and his face lights up as you squeal in agreement.
"Come on then, prongslet. What do you want, a coke?"
He scoops you off James' shoulders when your dad leans down and pops you on his hip. None of the men were stupid enough to let you walk on your own. You were a runner, and annoyingly you took after James in that sense. And they didn't think Lily would ever forgive any of them if they lost you in the thick, heavy crowd of teenagers and adults that swarmed the stadium.
"No, she's too young for coke, get her a-" James is cut off as his phone starts beeping.
The three men share a look as James flips his phone open and see's the caller ID.
Lily.
"Ignore it." Sirius hisses, grabbing your fingers as you babble in his ear and snatch at his hair.
But james was already answering the call, plugging his ear so he could actually hear lilly's voice over the sound of the concert.
"Hello, my darling wife."
Remus winces and shares an exasperated look with Sirius who was still tackling your fingers in his hair. James had never called Lily his darling wife before, not suspicious at all.
