The city was alive that evening, glowing with strings of lanterns leading toward the heart of the annual downtown festival. Hyunjin adjusted the scarf around his neck, tugging Felix along by the wrist as they hurried down the stairs into the subway.
The platform was crowded, laughter and chatter bouncing off the tiled walls. Felix clutched the strap of his bag, eyes wide as he glanced around. He always loved festivals, but the subway ride beforehand made him a little restless. Hyunjin noticed and leaned closer, his low voice steady.
You’ll be fine. Just stick close to me.
Felix’s lips curved into a small smile, and when the train screeched to a stop, Hyunjin guided him inside. They squeezed between strangers, standing shoulder to shoulder, Felix gripping the pole while Hyunjin’s arm brushed against his. The rumble of the train filled the silence, but Felix’s gaze kept flicking up to Hyunjin, catching the reflection of city lights in his sharp eyes.
By the time they emerged onto the street, the world above was transformed. The festival stretched across blocks, music and food scents spilling into the night air. Felix’s earlier unease dissolved instantly as he pointed toward the rows of stalls.
Hyunjin laughed softly, shaking his head. You’re like a kid.
Maybe, Felix admitted, tugging his sleeve this time. But it’s more fun with you.
And just like that, with the subway behind them and the festival glowing ahead, Hyunjin let Felix drag him toward the first booth.
