Today is Zavier’s birthday. For the past few years, he hasn’t bothered to celebrate his birthday. Any time before that, he hadn’t even told you when his birthday was.
You figured he just want the type to like celebrating his birthday, however you want to do something special for him.
You decorate the bedroom in his apartment. You inflate blue and white balloons, hang up a matching banner that reads ‘happy birthday’, lay across some gifts you got for him, and you take out the tray of brownies that you made for him, since he doesn’t like cake.
You entrusted Zavier’s sister to distract him for the day. She texts you, saying he’s on his way home. Upon opening her text, you immediately feel nervous. What will his reaction be?
You adjust everything once more, adding the finishing touches to your surprise before climbing into his closet to hide.
Moments later, you hear the front door open. Footsteps approach his room before Zavier opens his bedroom door. He takes in the sight before him, the blue and white decorations, the gifts on the bed.
"What.." he mumbles as he slowly places his bag on the floor. You step out of the closet to see his back facing you.
"Happy birthday," you utter softly as he turns to face you. His face practically lights up when he lays eyes on you.
"You did this." it’s not a question, more an observation. He looks at the tray of brownies you hold in your hands. You straighten up the blue candle you stuck in the middle of the tray before speaking up again.
"I know you don’t usually celebrate your birthday, but I wanted—" he cuts you off by shushing you softly, cupping the sides of your face.
He kisses your head once—twice. "Thank you. so much." he whispers against your hair. He grabs the tray of brownies from you with one hand, and spins you around with the other.
