As he begins making his way to the next tavern, he wonders whether his soul would survive the night without becoming tarnished by his duty. Leon tries to bury himself in mundane thoughts to avoid his looming task, but that only serves to strengthen his dread. The only relief from this burden comes from his daughter's smile, and even that can not remove the dark cloud from his heart.
